King Ateke Tom Declined CityBoy Movement & RTIFN Appointment, Says It's Deceptive.

King Ateke Tom, the Amayanabo of Okochiri Kingdom, has denied accepting an appointment as the South-South Zonal Coordinator of the "Relax Tinubu Is Fixing Nigeria" (RTIFN) movement, describing the announcement as a "deliberate act of deception".

In a statement released by his palace, King Ateke Tom emphasized that he never accepted, consented to, or assumed any position in RTIFN or any political structure. He warned Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and the organizers of the City Boy Movement to immediately cease associating him with the group.

The King's reaction comes after posters and banners circulating with his name and picture as the coordinator of RTIFN surfaced. The palace clarified that courtesy visits from RTIFN representatives on February 3 and 6, 2026, were strictly in line with royal hospitality and did not constitute an endorsement or acceptance of any political office.

King Ateke Tom's denial has sparked questions about the involvement of family members in political campaigns and whether such involvement is mandatory. The situation has also raised concerns about the use of traditional authority for political gain.

The RTIFN movement, founded by Seyi Tinubu, aims to promote the administration's Renewed Hope Agenda and provide clear information about government programs and reforms. However, critics argue that such platforms may blur the lines between civic education and partisan promotion.
