Burna Boy Berates Seyi Tinubu Over “Best President” Comment, Calls Tinubu “Worst President Ever”

Afrobeats star Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, has publicly criticized Seyi Tinubu after the president’s son described his father, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as “the best president Nigeria ever had.”

The Grammy-winning singer fired back during a recent public exchange, dismissing Seyi’s claim and delivering a direct Veritas quote: _“Seyi if your papa na the best president, no be you go tell us, na we go tell you, your papa is the worst.”

Burna Boy went further, branding President Tinubu the “worst president ever,” citing the worsening state of insecurity across Nigeria as his basis. The Last Last singer argued that Nigerians living with banditry, kidnapping, and violent attacks are better placed to judge leadership performance than those in power.

The exchange has since sparked heated debate online. Supporters of Burna Boy say the artist is voicing frustrations shared by many citizens who feel unsafe amid daily reports of attacks and abductions. They argue that public figures close to power often lack the lived experience of ordinary Nigerians facing economic hardship and insecurity.

Others have defended Seyi Tinubu, saying children are entitled to speak proudly of their parents’ achievements. They also caution celebrities against using inflammatory language when discussing the presidency, noting that leadership assessment should be based on data, policies, and long-term impact, not emotion.

This is not the first time Burna Boy has waded into political commentary. The Port Harcourt-born star has consistently used his platform to speak on governance, youth unemployment, and security since his 2020 ENDSARS anthem 20.10.20. His latest remarks add to growing public discourse on how Nigerians measure presidential performance midway into President Tinubu’s administration.

As of press time, Seyi Tinubu has not responded to Burna Boy’s comments. The Presidency also has not issued a statement on the singer’s criticism.

The clash highlights a wider tension: when public officials’ families praise leadership, citizens expect results on the ground to match the praise. For now, Burna Boy’s words have added another voice to that demand.
