Armed kidnappers swooped into the quiet community of Isapa, Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State early this morning, firing shots and creating panic among residents. Local youths swiftly mobilized en masse to defend their homes, resulting in several injuries but no deaths. Security forces previously stationed in nearby Eruku have been redeployed to Isapa to restore order.
Eyewitnesses described a chaotic scene, with gunfire echoing through the streets as villagers scrambled for safety. “We heard gunshots everywhere; the youths came out with sticks, stones, and anything they could find to protect us,” said a resident who preferred anonymity. “Many of our people are wounded, but thank God no life was lost.”
In response to the attack, police and military units from Eruku were redirected to Isapa. A spokesperson for the Kwara State Police Command confirmed the deployment, assuring residents that “efforts are underway to apprehend the perpetrators and secure the area.” The redeployment follows a series of recent kidnapping incidents in the Ekiti LGA, highlighting growing security challenges in the region.
