Kwara for Kwarans Initiative Praises Government Over Eruku Victims’ Release, Calls for More Security Measures

Ilorin, Nov 24, 2025, The Kwara for Kwarans Initiative has commended the Kwara State government and federal authorities for the successful rescue of the 38 worshippers abducted during the recent attack on Christ Apostolic Church, Eruku. In a statement issued by the initiative’s state secretary, Ambassador Shola Ilyas Akanbi, the group expressed gratitude for the “active” efforts that led to the victims’ safe return.

Ambassador Akanbi highlighted the collaborative work of security agencies, noting that the rescue was a result of joint operations involving the Nigerian Army, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Police, and local vigilantes. “We appreciate the hands‑on involvement of President Bola Tinubu and Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq in ensuring the safe release of these citizens,” he said, echoing sentiments from official statements.

The initiative also urged the general public to support ongoing security operations. “If you hear something, say something,” Akanbi emphasized, encouraging citizens to share intelligence with security agencies to help combat the lingering insecurity in the region. He added that actionable information from the public is crucial for authorities to dismantle criminal networks and prevent future incidents.

While celebrating the rescue, the group called for sustained measures to address the root causes of violence. “The release is a welcome relief, but we need more proactive steps — stronger community policing, improved infrastructure, and economic programs — to safeguard our communities,” the statement read.

The Eruku abduction had sparked widespread concern, prompting condemnation from various quarters, including the state PDP, which also lauded the victims’ freedom but criticized gaps in transparency regarding the rescue operation.
