Femi Fani-Kayode Back Matawalle, Praising Strengthened National Security

Former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode has condemned what he describes as a “vicious and shameless” media campaign allegedly driven by opposition figures against the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle.

Fani-Kayode said Matawalle has demonstrated strong loyalty to President Bola Tinubu and exceptional commitment to Nigeria’s counter-terrorism effort since assuming office. He credited the joint efforts of Matawalle and National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu with neutralising more terrorists in the last two years than in the previous eight combined.

He faulted the limited public disclosure of these security gains, arguing that Nigerians deserve to be informed of the progress being recorded.

With former Chief of Defence Staff General Christopher Musa now appointed Minister of Defence, Fani-Kayode expressed confidence that the synergy between Musa, Ribadu, Matawalle and the new Service Chiefs would further strengthen national security operations.

He urged Matawalle to remain focused despite political attacks, describing him as a determined and courageous figure with a longstanding reputation for firmness in confronting national threats. Fani-Kayode affirmed his continued confidence in the minister, emphasising their 15-year relationship and shared commitment to national defence.

He called on Matawalle to “keep up the fight” and continue serving the nation with zeal, assuring him of public support and divine guidance.
