Kwara for Kwarans Initiative Condemns Ifelodun LGA Council Chairman's Statement on Road Infrastructure.

In a scathing rebuke, the Kwara for Kwarans Initiative has criticized the Ifelodun Local Government Area Council Chairman for his recent statement on road infrastructure, describing it as "irresponsible" and "a talk of shame".

The organization expressed disappointment with the Chairman's response to a video circulating online, where he allegedly stated that he never promised his people an asphalt road, citing the high cost of such projects. The Kwara for Kwarans Initiative emphasized that the welfare of the people is the primary duty of government, and that elected officials have a responsibility to provide sustainable projects for their constituents.

"If anyone elected office holder doesn't know his responsibilities and duties, he or she should resign with immediate effect," the organization stated. "Office holders are employers of the masses and are paid from their taxes, they must have some sense of responsibility and provide list of sustainable project facilitated from the huge billions they get monthly".

The group also took issue with the Chairman's claim that his major achievement is scrapping roads, which they said is causing environmental pollution and harm to citizens. "If at all any citizen appreciate him for scrapping their roads, it tells level of irresponsibility of political office holders from that area from over a long time," the statement read.

The Kwara for Kwarans Initiative called for the Chairman to be held accountable for his actions, stating that any leader who fails to deliver on their promises should be forced to resign. "Insecurity, bad road network and all factors that made the LGA under his leadership ungovernable and discouraging especially because he is a youth," the organization noted.

This incident highlights the growing frustration among citizens with the state of infrastructure in Kwara State, particularly in rural areas. As reported by The Nation Newspaper, residents of Gerewu Community in Ilorin West Local Government Area have been protesting the poor state of their roads, demanding that the government tar the roads instead of grading them.

The Kwara State Government has been urged to take immediate action to address the infrastructure deficit in the state, particularly in areas like Ifelodun LGA, where the lack of basic amenities is affecting the quality of life of residents.
