Ilode Annual Yam Festival: A Vibrant Display of Cultural Heritage and Tradition

The ancient town of Ilode-Opin, nestled in the heart of Ekiti LGA, Kwara State, came alive earlier yesterday as the community gathered to celebrate the annual new yam festival. The Ilode-Opin Palace, the revered seat of the Oiwi of Ilode, was abuzz with excitement as royal fathers, high chiefs, and personalities from far and wide converged to witness the spectacular display of cultural heritage and tradition.

The festival, a cherished tradition in Ilode-Opin, is a celebration of the harvest season and the abundance of the land. The compounds represented included Odo Arin Compound, Erila Compound, Ikota Egbe Agba, Ikota "Egbe Omode", Ikota "Egbe Arin", Aafin Compound Chief Agbana, High Chief Ajayi [Olowa], Oke-Opin Corps, Hon Adeleke [Hon Councilor], High Chief Eleodi of Oke-Opin, and many more.

The atmosphere was electric, with indigenous drummers and dancers adding to the excitement. The air was filled with the rhythmic beats of traditional drums and the sweet aroma of pounded yam and palm wine, which were served to refresh the participants.
