BREAKING: Over 10 Kidnap Victims Rescued in Joint Military, Vigilante Operation Along Kwara-Ekiti Border

By Anifa Oluwapelumi

More than 10 people reportedly abducted along Ogbe-Koro Road on Thursday, October 8, have been rescued following a joint security operation involving troops of the Nigerian Army, Ekiti State vigilantes and Kwara State forest guards.

The rescue operation was reportedly carried out in the early hours of Saturday, October 10, around Iyemero in Ekiti State, following intelligence reports on the movements of the suspected kidnappers.

According to local reports, the operation involved troops of the Nigerian Army’s 12 Brigade, stationed in Egbe, Kogi State, working alongside vigilantes from Ekiti State, Kwara forest guards and other security personnel.

Reports indicate that after the initial abduction along Ogbe-Koro Road, the suspected kidnappers moved to Koro on the same day, where they reportedly abducted another group of people before heading towards Iyemero in Ekiti State.

Their movements reportedly prompted security operatives from Kwara and Ekiti states to mobilise and launch a coordinated operation aimed at rescuing the victims and confronting the suspected kidnappers.

The operation reportedly caught the suspects while they were gathered, creating an opportunity for the security team to engage them and secure the release of the abducted persons.

Local reports further suggested that the suspected kidnappers had limited ammunition, a factor said to have contributed to the security operatives gaining the upper hand during the operation.

The reported rescue highlights the importance of cooperation among security agencies, local vigilante groups and forest guards, particularly in communities along state boundaries where criminal groups may move between jurisdictions.

However, further details regarding the identities and condition of the rescued victims, the number of suspects apprehended and the outcome of the operation remain unclear.
