Video; Kwara State Kidnapping Saga: Recent Arrests and Ongoing Challenges

A disturbing trend of kidnapping has continued to plague Kwara State, with recent incidents reported in Ekiti, Oke-Ero, Irepodun, Isin, and even Kwara North areas like Patigi and Lade. The Kwara State Police Command has made efforts to address the issue, with recent arrests and recoveries of ransom money. However, residents remain vigilant, calling for more decisive action to combat the pervasive problem.

A recent video circulating on social media shows kidnappers arrested in Kwara South district, specifically in Ekiti Kwara and Oke-Ero LGA. The video depicts local security personnel standing in front of the Iloffa divisional police headquarters, with the kidnappers tied up on the ground, appearing battered and bruised, allegedly by charms.

Another video shared on the Kwara South platform reveals a suspected kidnapper lying on the ground, with a sum of #2Million, believed to be the ransom he came to collect. According to the video obtained by Veritas News, the kidnapper was shot in the hand and is seen struggling on the floor.

These developments come after a series of kidnapping incidents have plagued the Kwara South district. In November 2023, the Kwara State Police Command arrested seven suspected kidnappers, recovering a cash sum of N1,736,000.

Despite the efforts of the Kwara State Police Command, kidnapping remains a pervasive problem in Kwara State. Residents are calling for more decisive action to combat the issue, citing concerns about the rapid influx of cattle herders into the state and the attendant security implications.

Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq has raised concerns about the rapid influx of cattle herders into the state, noting that the spate of insecurity in the two states is becoming disheartening and alarming.
