The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission has invited Aliko Dangote to appear before its investigators on Monday, 22nd December 2025. The billionaire businessman is required to formally adopt and substantiate a petition he submitted on 16th December, which alleges significant corruption against Farouk Ahmed, the immediate past Chief Executive of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority. The commission has constituted a special panel of senior investigators, approved by Chairman Dr Musa Adamu Aliyu (SAN), to handle the probe into the claims of financial impropriety and economic sabotage.
The petition alleges that the former petroleum regulator has lived beyond his legitimate means, specifically citing over $7 million spent on the education of his four children at elite schools in Switzerland. Furthermore, it accuses the former official of engaging in activities that undermined national refining capacity by issuing import licences for petroleum products in collusion with international oil traders. Despite the recent resignation of Farouk Ahmed from his post at the regulatory authority, the anti-graft agency has maintained that the investigation will proceed due to its significant public interest implications and potential breach of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act.
Preparedness for the session has been confirmed, with the billionaire expected to attend in person or be represented by his legal counsel, Ogwu Onoja (SAN). This legal move follows a period of escalating tensions earlier in the year between the refinery group and the regulatory body over issues ranging from fuel quality standards to market access. The commission has assured all parties of a fair and unbiased process, noting that the former chief executive will be invited to respond once the petition is formally adopted and supporting evidence is provided.
