The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kwara State Command, has intensified its clampdown on drug trafficking in Offa Local Government Area, arresting two suspects and seizing two vehicles and motorcycles in a recent operation.
In a phone interview with our reporter, the Kwara State NDLEA Commander, Mrs. Fatima Popoola, stated that the operation was part of a renewed effort to send a strong warning to drug dealers that 2026 will be a tough year for illicit drug activities in Offa.
She emphasized that the agency would sustain its efforts throughout the year by dislodging drug joints across Offa, stressing that drug traffickers would be given no room to operate.
Mrs. Popoola identified drug abuse as a key driver of criminal behavior, noting that many crimes are committed under the influence of illicit substances
She called on parents, community leaders, and residents to join forces with the NDLEA in the fight against drug abuse and trafficking. She also commended the Governor of Kwara State, Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, and the Olofa of Offa, Oba Mufutau Gbadamosi Esuwoye II, for their continued support and collaboration.
The operation, led by the Deputy Commander of Operations and Training, Mr. Kenneth Odili, targeted several drug-prone areas in Offa, including Atari, Aade, Ikolaba, and Olorunkuse.
A significant moment during the operation was the NDLEA’s visit to the palace of the Olofa of Offa, where the monarch’s Chief of Staff pledged the palace’s unwavering support for the agency on behalf of the traditional ruler.
