Suspected armed bandits in their hundreds invaded Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State in the early hours of Saturday, triggering an intense gun battle with security forces that lasted approximately two hours, multiple community sources and security contacts told Veritas News Hub.
The attackers reportedly stormed parts of the local government around 3:00 a.m., with heavy gunfire reported across several communities. Nigerian security agencies, including soldiers stationed in the area, engaged the assailants in sustained exchange that continued until about 5:00 a.m.
Eyewitnesses who spoke under condition of anonymity described the assault as “coordinated and overwhelming,” noting that the bandits arrived in large numbers and appeared heavily armed. Residents said the sound of gunfire forced many families to flee their homes before dawn, while others remained indoors as troops battled to repel the attackers.
