The political momentum behind Hon. (Barr.) Gbenga Peter Makanjuola’s bid for the Kwara South Senatorial seat gained fresh weight on Friday as Oyun Vanguard, a prominent socio-political group in Oyun Local Government Area, formally declared total support for his 2027 ambition.
In a strongly worded communique issued after an expanded stakeholders’ meeting in Oyun, the entire leadership and membership of Oyun Vanguard, under the coordination of Wr. Tajudeen Ibrahim and the chairmanship of Mr. Adeolu Oyinlade, said their endorsement of Makanjuola is “proud, total, and unequivocal.”
Veritas News Hub reports that the move marks the fourth local government endorsement secured by the aspirant in less than two weeks since his public declaration, underscoring a rapidly expanding grassroots base across Kwara South.
The group described the endorsement as more than a routine political announcement, calling it “a defining moment in the collective aspiration of the people of Oyun and the entire Kwara South for responsible leadership, progressive representation, and sustainable development.”
According to the communique, Oyun Vanguard’s decision followed weeks of consultation across wards, youth associations, market groups, and traditional institutions in the local government. The consensus, leaders said, was that Kwara South needs a senator with proven capacity to attract federal projects, facilitate economic opportunities, and provide purposeful legislative representation.
“At a time when our people earnestly seek visionary leadership and credible representation at the National Assembly, Hon. (Barr.) Gbenga Peter Makanjuola stands out as a tested, trusted, and highly experienced statesman,” the statement read. “His record in legal practice, public administration, legislative coordination, and political engagement speaks volumes.”
Oyun Vanguard cited Makanjuola’s track record as a legal practitioner and his previous roles in public administration and legislative coordination as key reasons for their confidence. The group insisted that the district “deserves a Senator with the capacity, competence, and courage to effectively articulate the needs of our people.”
They highlighted four core expectations from the next senator: attracting federal infrastructure to Kwara South, creating economic opportunities, empowering youth and women, and delivering accountable representation on the floor of the Senate.
“We are fully convinced that Hon. Makanjuola possesses the pedigree, intellect, and political sagacity required to deliver on these expectations,” said Mr. Adeolu Oyinlade, chairman of Oyun Vanguard. “His declaration has rekindled hope across communities in Oyun and beyond.”
The group noted that Makanjuola’s aspiration has been particularly well received among young people in Oyun, who see in him “a future driven by inclusiveness, development, and accountable leadership.” Coordinating officer Wr. Tajudeen Ibrahim told Veritas News Hub that town hall feedback showed youths are “tired of tokenism” and want a senator who understands policy, budgeting, and lawmaking.
“His aspiration represents a new chapter of progress, unity, and renewed political consciousness for Kwara South,” Ibrahim said. “That is why students, artisans, and young professionals are leading this mobilisation.”
Oyun Vanguard is now calling on all stakeholders across the senatorial district to close ranks behind Makanjuola. The appeal extends to political leaders, party members, youth groups, market women, professionals, traditional institutions, and “all lovers of good governance” in Kwara South.
“The time for quality representation is now. The time for strategic leadership is now. The time for Hon. (Barr.) Gbenga Peter Makanjuola is now,” the communique declared.
Veritas News Hub confirmed that Oyun Vanguard’s endorsement makes it the fourth local government-based structure to publicly back Makanjuola in less than 14 days since he declared his senatorial ambition. Party insiders say the speed of the endorsements reflects both his groundwork and the desire for a consensus candidate ahead of party primaries.
Political observers in Ilorin noted that locking down Oyun LGA is strategic, given its voting strength and history of producing influential voices in Kwara South politics. Combined with earlier endorsements from Offa and two other LGAs, the Makanjuola campaign appears to be building early momentum across the district.
With the 2027 General Elections drawing closer, Oyun Vanguard said it will commence ward-to-ward sensitization and voter education drives to consolidate support for Makanjuola. The group pledged to work with other endorsing structures to ensure a “clean, issue-driven, and victorious” campaign.
“Kwara South cannot afford to gamble with representation,” Oyinlade concluded. “We are putting forward our best foot, and we urge the entire district to do the same.”
