GEHGEH DENIES WEDDING RUMOURS, CLAIMS VIRAL VIDEOS WERE AI-GENERATED

For someone who built a reputation as one of Nigeria's loudest critics of marriage, Emmanuel Obruste, better known as GehGeh, has found himself at the center of a controversy that has left social media divided.

The influencer and financial commentator recently became the subject of intense online discussions after videos and photographs surfaced showing what appeared to be his traditional wedding ceremony in Niger State. Dressed in matching burgundy traditional attire with a woman believed to be his bride, the clips quickly spread across social media, prompting congratulatory messages, criticism, and accusations of hypocrisy.

The backlash was swift.

Many users questioned how someone who has consistently advised men against marriage could allegedly be tying the knot himself. Popular comedian Carter Efe was among those who reacted publicly, while an individual claiming to be GehGeh's former manager accused him of misleading followers with his anti-marriage stance.

However, GehGeh has firmly denied the reports.

In a series of social media responses, he insisted that the circulating videos and photographs were generated using artificial intelligence (AI), describing the entire episode as a deliberate attempt to damage his reputation. He challenged critics to produce any evidence where he categorically instructed people never to marry, arguing that his comments on marriage had often been taken out of context.

His explanation has done little to settle the debate.

Some supporters believe advances in AI-generated content make his claims plausible, pointing to how convincing manipulated videos have become. Others remain unconvinced, arguing that the footage appears too detailed to dismiss outright without concrete evidence.

Beyond the question of whether GehGeh actually got married, the incident reflects a broader challenge facing the digital age: distinguishing reality from sophisticated AI-generated content. As artificial intelligence becomes increasingly capable of producing realistic images and videos, public figures may find themselves defending against misinformation created with emerging technologies.

At the same time, the controversy highlights the weight of influence in the social media era. Personalities with large audiences often become closely associated with their public opinions, making any perceived contradiction a lightning rod for criticism.

Whether the wedding videos are genuine or artificially generated, the conversation has evolved beyond one influencer. It has become another reminder of how quickly narratives spread online and how difficult they can be to verify before public opinion takes shape.

For now, the truth behind the viral ceremony remains contested, but the debate surrounding authenticity, accountability, and digital manipulation continues to dominate conversations across Nigerian social media.
