Leaders of the Kwara Ekiti bloc in Kwara South have issued a passionate appeal to all aspirants jostling for the House of Representatives ticket for the Ekiti/Oke-Ero/Irepodun/Isin Federal Constituency, calling for unity, mutual respect, and cooperation as the political race heats up.
In a statement signed by the National President, Prof. J.S. Omotosho; Deputy National President, Chief Ayobola Samuel; and General Secretary, Elder J.F. Abolarinwa, the Kwara Ekiti Indigenes expressed deep concern over what they described as damaging and disparaging social media posts targeting fellow aspirants from the same Ekiti bloc.
The group warned that such conduct threatens to fracture the bloc and weaken its chances of producing the next member to represent the constituency at the National Assembly.
According to the leadership, the Ekiti people of Kwara State have for years struggled to present a united front in national politics. With the 2027 general elections approaching and party primaries drawing near, the leaders say this is not the time for internal division.
“We have observed with grave concern some write ups and posts on the various social media platforms which are damaging and disparaging to the image and reputation of other aspirants from the Ekiti bloc. This is not acceptable,” the statement read.
The indigenes stressed that political ambition should not come at the cost of communal harmony. They reminded aspirants and their supporters that the ultimate goal is to ensure that one of their own emerges to represent the Ekiti/Oke-Ero/Irepodun/Isin Federal Constituency.
“We urge every aspirant and their supporters to remember that our collective interest is greater than individual ambition. Whoever emerges as the party's candidate should receive the full support of everyone in the Bloc,” the leaders stated.
Quoting a popular Ekiti adage to drive home their point, the statement added: “It is better for one of us to be there than for none of us to be there.”
A Call to Preserve Ekiti Identity and Political Relevance
The Ekiti bloc in Kwara South comprises four local government areas: Ekiti, Oke-Ero, Irepodun, and Isin. Despite their numerical strength and cultural heritage, political observers note that the bloc has often been sidelined in the power equation of Kwara South due to internal wrangling.
Political analysts say the House of Representatives seat for the constituency is highly competitive, with aspirants from different blocs within Kwara South also in the race. Against this backdrop, the Kwara Ekiti Indigenes believe unity is the only path to victory.
“Our people have the capacity, the competence, and the numbers. What we have lacked in the past is cohesion. This time, we must not allow ego, pride, or misinformation to rob us of representation at the federal level,” a community leader in Omu-Aran who pleaded anonymity told Veritas News Hub.
The appeal also reflects growing anxiety among grassroots Ekiti voters who fear that toxic campaigning online could spill into real-world divisions in towns and wards across the four LGAs.
Beyond calling for decorum, the leadership prayed that no aspirant would be left behind emotionally or politically after the primaries. They emphasized that the selection process, whether through consensus or election, must leave the bloc stronger, not weaker.
“We pray that none of our aspirants will be left behind and that the process will produce an outcome that strengthens our unity and advances the collective aspirations of the Ekiti people. Together, through mutual respect and cooperation, we can achieve greater success for our Bloc and our communities,” the statement concluded.
The communique ended with the traditional Ekiti rallying cry: “Alalẹ Ekiti Agbe A Oooo!!!”~a call to Ekiti farmers and indigenes to rise and take their place.
The Ekiti/Oke-Ero/Irepodun/Isin Federal Constituency is one of the most watched seats in Kwara South. With multiple aspirants reportedly declaring interest across party lines, the call for unity may shape how delegates and voters align in the coming months.
For many Ekiti indigenes, the message is clear: the battle is not Ekiti vs Ekiti. The real contest is to ensure the bloc retains relevance and influence in Abuja.
As primaries approach, all eyes will be on how aspirants respond to this appeal. Will they sheathe their swords on social media and embrace the spirit of Omoluabi the Ekiti virtue of character and respect?
For now, the Kwara Ekiti Indigenes have set the tone. The ball is in the court of the aspirants.
