OSOGBO— Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have arrested Adeniyi Adeyemi, the self-acclaimed Director-General of the controversial Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council, PFIPC, in Osun State, hours after a Federal High Court in Abuja issued a bench warrant for his arrest.

Confirming the arrest in an exclusive interview with _PUNCH Online_ on Tuesday, the spokesperson of the Osun State Police Command, SP Abiodun Ojelabi, said Adeyemi was picked up at his hideout by the Intelligence Response Team deployed from Abuja.

“Yes, it is confirmed. The Intelligence Response Team from Abuja arrested him here in Osun,” Ojelabi said.

He added that the suspect is expected to be transferred to Abuja later today to face charges.

Dramatic Arrest Captured on Video

A video of the arrest circulating online showed Adeyemi dressed in a light blue traditional outfit, surrounded by armed security operatives.

In the footage, he appeared tense and visibly concerned as he responded to questions from the officers.

When asked to identify himself, Adeyemi initially avoided a direct answer.

“I’ve mentioned it, sir,” he said.

The officers insisted: “Mention it for us, please. What is your name? What is your name?”

Adeyemi replied, “I’ve said it several times.”

Court Order Preceded Arrest

The arrest came hours after Justice Mohammed Umar of the Federal High Court in Abuja ordered that Adeyemi be arrested for failing to appear for his arraignment.

The judge granted an oral application by the prosecution after the defendant failed to take his plea on an eight-count charge filed by the Nigeria Police Force. The charges border on alleged conspiracy, forgery and impersonation.

According to the prosecution, Adeyemi has been operating the so-called Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council  an entity the Presidency has repeatedly stated does not exist.

Justice Umar dismissed arguments by Adeyemi’s counsel that his client stayed away from court because he feared for his life, before issuing the bench warrant.

Veritas News Hub had earlier reported that the court was waiting for Adeyemi to appear for arraignment before the warrant was issued.

PFIPC Controversy

The PFIPC has remained a subject of controversy for months. The Federal Government and the Presidency have distanced themselves from the group, describing it as unauthorized and not recognized by any arm of government.

Security agencies have also warned members of the public against dealing with individuals parading themselves as officials of the council.

With Tuesday’s arrest, police say they are working to bring Adeyemi to Abuja to answer to the charges preferred against him.
