FG Disburses Over ₦600bn to 10m Vulnerable Households in Three Years

The Federal Government has disclosed that it has disbursed more than ₦600 billion in cash transfers to over 10 million vulnerable households across Nigeria in the past three years.

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Bernard Doro, disclosed this during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today.

According to the minister, the cash-transfer programme was introduced to provide financial support to poor and vulnerable Nigerians and help cushion the impact of economic hardship.

Doro said the beneficiaries could represent about 40 million Nigerians, based on an estimated average household size of four people.

The government has also implemented other poverty-reduction initiatives, including vocational training, support for farmers and food-security interventions in parts of northern Nigeria.

However, questions have been raised about the figures, particularly the difference between the government's previous claim of reaching 15 million households and the latest figure of over 10 million.

The development highlights the Federal Government’s ongoing efforts to reduce poverty and provide assistance to vulnerable Nigerians, while also raising calls for greater transparency over the distribution of the funds.
