FG Trains 300 Technicians, Youths in Advanced Automotive Skills

The Federal Government has commenced a two-week specialised training programme for 300 technicians and youths across six states, as part of efforts to strengthen technical capacity and improve skills in Nigeria’s automotive sector.

The programme is being implemented by the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) in collaboration with TOFEKO Limited, with 50 participants selected from each of Ekiti, Imo, Kano, Nasarawa, Bauchi and Cross River States.

Commenced on August 17, 2026, the training focuses on vehicle mechatronics and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) retrofitting, combining technical instruction with hands-on practical sessions in vehicle diagnosis, servicing, repair and maintenance.

According to reports on the programme, Bcephas Consults Limited is providing technical training and consultancy, with participants gaining practical exposure to modern vehicle technologies and diagnostic techniques.

The initiative is designed to help existing technicians upgrade their skills while giving young Nigerians practical and employable knowledge that could improve their career and entrepreneurial opportunities in the automotive industry.

The two-week programme is expected to conclude on August 28, with participants scheduled to receive certificates and empowerment tools to support the application of the skills acquired.

The intervention forms part of NADDC’s broader efforts to develop a skilled workforce capable of keeping pace with emerging automotive technologies, while supporting employment, enterprise development and growth across Nigeria’s automotive value chain.
