The immediate past National Secretary of the Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union, (IEDPU), Alhaji Abubakar Imam, has commended the Madawaki and Sarkin Gobir of Ilorin, Alhaji Yakubu Garba Gobir, for his timely intervention in the recent altercation between the Turaki of Ilorin, Senator Saliu Mustapha; and the camp of the Sardauna of Ilorin and Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, CON.
In a message of appreciation dated Tuesday (August 25, 2026), which he addressed to Alhaji Gobir, the former Secretary described Gobir’s mediation as a display of patriotism and statesmanship that reflects the peace-loving tradition of the Ilorin Emirate.
He recalled a similar role played by Alhaji Gobir, who is also the Waziri Kasar Hausa, about four years ago during the contestation between Senator Saliu Mustapha of the APC and former Minister of Sports, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi of the PDP, for the Kwara Central Senatorial seat, noting that his efforts helped to reduce tension and promote unity.
The former IEDPU Chief Scribe, who is also the Deputy Editor of UNILORIN Bulletin, linked the peace efforts to the Gobir family legacy, citing the roles of the pioneer Waziri of Ilorin, Mallam Muhammadu Ajeigbe Gobir; a late super Permanent Secretary, Alhaji Yusuf Amuda Gobir, OFR; and Alhaji Yakubu Amori Gobir, a pioneer Permanent Secretary in Kwara State, as well as Ambassador Abubakar Garba Gobir, who was also a Permanent Secretary in the federal civil service, in promoting peace and national reconciliation.
He urged more leaders, clerics, Imams, intellectuals and sociocultural organisations across the Ilorin Emirate to emulate Alhaji Gobir’s example and support the campaign for peace being championed by IEDPU.
Alhaji Imam, who is also the immediate past General Secretary of the Ilorin Emirate Staff Union, University of Ilorin, stressed that while politics and elections would come and go, the unity and tranquility of Ilorin Emirate must be preserved for posterity.
Alhaji Imam prayed to Allah to continue to bless Alhaji Yakubu Garba Gobir with sound health, wisdom, knowledge and wealth to enable him to render more service to the community and humanity.
