ILORIN — Former Ekiti LGA chairmanship aspirant, Ambassador Anjorin Babatunde, has warned political aides and advisers misleading the Kwara State Governor to desist, saying the collective will of the people remains stronger than any office holder.
Speaking during a media chat in Ilorin on Saturday, 29th August 2027, Amb. Anjorin said Nigerians have become more politically conscious and will no longer tolerate governance driven by sycophancy and poor counsel. He stressed that the 2027 elections will be determined by the people’s resolve, not by the influence of a few in government.
“The power of the people is greater than people in power,” Amb. Anjorin declared. “I am warning those misleading the Kwara State Governor to desist. The power of the people is stronger than the 2 percent political office holders in power.”
He explained that when leaders surround themselves with advisers who prioritize personal interests over public good, they risk alienating the very people that brought them to power. According to him, disunity within the ruling party, fueled by bad advice, will only create an opening for the opposition to return.
“It will be understood by those 2 percent when they allow disunity to bring the opposition back to power,” he said. “The back of those giving the governor wrong advice will back the opposition into power. You cannot deceive the people forever and expect to win their trust again.”
Amb. Anjorin, a grassroots mobilizer and former APC aspirant, noted that the political atmosphere ahead of 2027 is different from previous elections. He said voters across Kwara and Nigeria are now focused on personality, performance and credibility rather than party loyalty alone. He linked the current wave of defections and realignments to years of frustration, especially among what he called “Otoge Progressives” who feel abandoned after the 2019 movement for change in Kwara.
The former aspirant urged the Governor to listen directly to the people at the ward and LGA level, rather than relying solely on a small circle of political appointees. He said development at the grassroots, not jamboree or propaganda, will determine who wins in 2027.
“Leadership is about service, not about protecting a 2 percent cabal,” Amb. Anjorin added. “If we fail to unite and deliver, the people will use their votes to correct us. That is democracy.”
He called on youth groups, civil society and community leaders to intensify voter education and hold all political office holders accountable. According to him, 2027 will be a referendum on service delivery, and no party can take the support of the people for granted.
Amb. Anjorin concluded by reaffirming his commitment to the APC, but emphasized that party platforms must be used to serve the people or risk losing relevance. “If we get it right, the people will reward us. If we get it wrong, the people will also correct us,” he said.
