Redeemer’s Health Village (RHV), a healthcare institution associated with the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has introduced robotic surgery technology to Nigeria, marking a significant development in the country’s healthcare sector.
The facility has acquired two robotic surgery systems, one dedicated to clinical procedures and another for training Nigerian medical professionals in the use of the technology.
The robotic surgery programme is expected to support procedures across several specialist areas, including urology, general surgery, gynaecology, colorectal surgery, thoracic surgery and hepatobiliary surgery.
RHV is also establishing a Robotic Academy to train medical professionals, with training expected to commence in October.
According to the manager in charge of Redeemer’s Health Village, the initiative is aimed not only at making advanced surgical technology available locally but also at building the capacity of Nigerian doctors and other healthcare professionals.
They also indicated that some robotic procedures could cost patients as little as about five per cent of what similar treatments may cost in the United States or Europe.
The development could offer hope to patients who previously had to travel abroad for certain advanced medical procedures, while also creating opportunities for Nigerian healthcare professionals to receive specialised training within the country.
With the introduction of robotic systems and the planned launch of the Robotic Academy, Redeemer’s Health Village is positioning itself as part of Nigeria's growing push towards advanced, technology-driven healthcare.
