ABUJA President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has received the Secretary-General of the Muslim World League (MWL) and Chairman of the Organisation of Muslim Scholars, Sheikh Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Sheikh Al-Issa led a delegation on a courtesy visit to the President on August 13, 2026, as part of engagements focused on strengthening religious dialogue, peaceful coexistence and cooperation among communities in Nigeria and West Africa.
During the meeting, President Tinubu expressed full support for the Muslim World League’s Initiative for Social Peace in West Africa and the Abuja Declaration, including its action plan, implementation programmes and proposed coordinating mechanism for joint cooperation.
The initiative followed a conference in Abuja that brought together Muslim and Christian religious leaders from across West Africa to promote dialogue, social cohesion and peaceful coexistence.
Sheikh Al-Issa thanked President Tinubu for his support and patronage of the conference, which attracted representatives from different religious traditions and international organisations.
The development comes as Nigeria continues to face security and social challenges that have heightened calls for greater cooperation across religious and ethnic lines. The Federal Government has also urged Nigerians to move beyond religious, ethnic and political divisions in confronting the country’s challenges.
The meeting therefore places Nigeria at the centre of renewed regional efforts to use interfaith dialogue and cooperation as tools for promoting peace and social stability across West Africa.
