President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has constituted the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 general elections, with former Zamfara State Governor, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, appointed as Director-General.
The council, announced on Saturday, will be chaired by President Tinubu, with Vice President Kashim Shettima serving as Vice Chairman. APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, will also serve as Vice Chairman, while Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State was named Secretary.
The appointments signal the formal commencement of the APC's preparations for the 2027 presidential campaign, with the party assembling a broad team of political heavyweights, strategists, lawmakers and media professionals.
APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Bashiru, and Hadiza Bala-Usman will serve as Deputy and Assistant Secretaries respectively.
The campaign council will also have an advisory body comprising prominent APC figures, including former party chairman Chief Bisi Akande, Chief Segun Osoba, Senator Rochas Okorocha, Senator Abdullahi Adamu and Senator Florence Ita Giwa.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas and Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni have been appointed Deputy Directors-General for the South and North, working alongside Senator Opeyemi Bamidele and Senator Jibril Barau.
Former Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole will oversee mobilisation as Deputy Director-General, while the President's Chief of Staff will handle administration.
James Abiodun Faleke, who played a key role in the APC's 2022/2023 campaign, is returning as Deputy Director-General in charge of election planning, coordination and monitoring.
Faleke will work with zonal directors across the six geopolitical zones, including Senator Olushola Adeyeye in the South-West, Dr Ngozi Olejeme in the South-South, Senator Uche Ekwunife in the South-East, Muntaqha Rabe in the North-West, Ahmed Mohammed Ketso in the North-Central and Senator Sani Danladi in the North-East.
The party has also unveiled its legal and media structures, with Muiz Adeyemi Banire heading the legal directorate and Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, serving as Coordinating Director for Media and Strategic Communication.
Idris will work alongside Dele Alake, Bayo Onanuga and Lanre Issa-Onilu, among others, while Segun Dada returns as Director of New Media, a position he held during the 2022/2023 campaign.
Dele Alake will lead the campaign's team of spokespersons, alongside Alwan Hassan, Ayobami Oyalowo, Kemi Asekun-Shittu and Adamu Fanda.
In a message to members of the council, President Tinubu charged them to work tirelessly towards securing victory for the APC in the 2027 elections.
Tinubu said the party would enter the campaign season with achievements to showcase, urging members to communicate the administration's record and give Nigerians hope for the future.
“We have delivered on our campaign promises and set our country on a path of economic progress,” the President said.
He urged campaign officials to confidently present the administration's achievements while working to defeat political forces seeking to return the country to what he described as its past challenges.
The announcement effectively sets the APC's machinery in motion for the 2027 presidential contest, with the party expected to intensify mobilisation and outreach as the election approaches.
