TYLA FACES BACKLASH AS SILENCE ON XENOPHOBIC ATTACKS SPARKS BOYCOTT CALLS IN NIGERIA

South African Grammy-winning singer Tyla has come under intense criticism from many Nigerians following her perceived silence over renewed xenophobic attacks targeting foreign nationals, including Nigerians, in South Africa.

The backlash intensified after the singer announced her A*POP World Tour, which originally included a stop in Lagos. Many social media users questioned why the artist had not publicly condemned the attacks while continuing to seek support from Nigerian fans. Calls for a boycott of her Lagos concert quickly gained momentum online.

While some critics argued that Tyla has a responsibility to speak out against violence affecting fellow Africans, others defended the singer, insisting that musicians should not be held accountable for political issues or government actions. The debate has since divided opinion across social media.

Reports later indicated that the Lagos date no longer appeared on Tyla's official tour schedule, fueling further speculation that the removal was linked to the growing backlash, although no official explanation has been provided by the singer or her management.

The controversy comes amid heightened diplomatic tensions between Nigeria and South Africa over reports of attacks on Nigerian nationals, with many Africans continuing to call for justice, accountability, and stronger protection for migrants living in South Africa.
