As political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 elections, the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) governorship candidate in Oyo State, Adebiyi Adedapo, has said that the people of Oyo State will ultimately determine the candidates they want to support at the polls.
Adedapo made the remark while responding to comments involving the emergence and acceptability of major governorship candidates in the state, stressing that political decisions concerning Oyo State should be left to the electorate.
He directed his response at Adegboyega Taofeek Adegoke, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate, amid growing political discussions surrounding the 2027 Oyo governorship contest.
According to Adedapo, political actors and groups outside the state cannot determine who the people of Oyo State will accept or support. He maintained that the electorate, through their votes, would have the final say.
The statement comes as political parties continue to position their candidates ahead of the 2027 governorship election. Recent reports on the published Oyo governorship field list Adegoke among the candidates, alongside Adedapo and candidates from several other political parties.
The developing contest is expected to generate more political debates as candidates and their supporters intensify their campaigns and engagements with voters across the state.
For Adedapo, however, the ultimate decision remains with Oyo voters, whose votes will determine the candidate that receives their mandate at the election.
