Moves to Saraki Political Dynasty, Vows to Deliver Eruku Votes for PDP
ERUKU, EKITI LGA— The political landscape in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State took a dramatic turn on Monday as the Immediate Past Transitional Implementation Committee [TIC] Chairman of Ekiti LGA, Hon. Kehinde Bayode, popularly known as Osoko, formally dumped the All Progressives Congress [APC].
Hon. Bayode tendered his resignation letter to the leadership of the party at the ward level, citing failed party leadership, lack of internal democracy, and neglect of grassroots stakeholders as reasons for his decision.
In an exclusive chat with Veritas News Hub shortly after submitting his resignation, Hon. Bayode confirmed his exit from the ruling party and declared his next political destination.
"I'm Not Just Going to Any Party, I'm Going to Saraki Dynasty"
According to him, his defection is not just to any political party, but to a political family with structure, history, and people-oriented ideology.
“I am not just going to just any party, I am going to the Saraki Dynasty. That is where true leadership lives. That is where people are valued and where grassroots politicians are respected,”Hon. Bayode told Veritas News Hub.
He stated that his decision followed wide consultations with his supporters, political associates, family members and key stakeholders across Eruku and Ekiti LGA at large.
The former Council boss said he had become disillusioned with the direction of the APC in Ekiti LGA and Kwara State, noting that the party had deviated from the ideals that attracted him and his supporters in the first place.
Reasons for Exit
Hon. Bayode listed several reasons for his resignation:
1. Failed Party Leadership: He accused the APC leadership in the LGA and State of failing to provide purposeful direction, resulting in disunity and disenchantment among loyal party members.
2. Lack of Recognition for Grassroots: He said committed party faithfuls who worked for the victory of the party in the last elections have been abandoned and sidelined.
3. Absence of Internal Democracy: According to him, decision-making has been hijacked by a few individuals, leaving no room for collective interest.
“We built the party at the grassroots with our sweat. But today, the party leadership has failed. There is no reward for loyalty, no respect for grassroots structures. I cannot continue to stay in a party that does not value its own people,”he added.
Vow to Deliver Eruku for PDP
The former TIC Chairman, who is a strong political mobilizer in Eruku Ward — one of the largest and most politically influential wards in Ekiti LGA — vowed to ensure that Eruku votes massively for the Peoples Democratic Party [PDP] in the coming elections.
He promised to deploy his political structure across Eruku and Ekiti LGA to ensure that the PDP secures bulk votes.
“Eruku is my base. I know the terrain and I know my people. I promise to ensure that Eruku vote is bulk for the Peoples Democratic Party [PDP]. This is not just about me, it is about my people who have decided to follow the Saraki leadership,”Hon. Bayode declared.
Political analysts in the area say Hon. Bayode’s defection is a major blow to the APC in Ekiti LGA, given his influence in Eruku and his closeness to the grassroots.
Eruku Ward has historically been a battleground, and with a figure like Osoko switching camps, the PDP may have gained a significant boost ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Saraki Dynasty Reacts
Sources within the Saraki political family in Kwara State confirmed that Hon. Bayode has been in talks with key leaders of the dynasty for weeks and his entry into the PDP fold is expected to be formalized in the coming days with a grand reception in Eruku.
The move is seen as part of ongoing realignments in Kwara politics as former political heavyweights return to the Saraki camp ahead of the next election cycle.
Implications for APC in Ekiti LGA
Hon. Bayode’s resignation comes at a time when the APC in Ekiti LGA is battling internal cracks, with several ward and LGA executives reportedly aggrieved over alleged imposition and neglect.
With his exit, it is expected that more loyalists and supporters of the former Chairman may also defect to the PDP in the coming days, further weakening the ruling party’s base in the area.
As of the time of filing this report, the APC leadership in Ekiti LGA has not issued an official statement on the resignation.
