Wike Slams AbdulRazaq Over ‘Rainbow Coalition’ Allegations, Denies Blocking PDP Ahead of 2027

By Anifa Oluwapelumi

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has launched a blistering attack against Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, accusing him of mobilizing All Progressives Congress (APC) governors and other key political figures against him through false narratives surrounding political realignments in Kwara.

Speaking during his monthly media briefing in Port Harcourt on Wednesday, Wike alleged that the Kwara State Governor has been circulating claims that he is bankrolling aggrieved politicians who missed out on APC tickets in Kwara, supposedly due to his ties with former Senate President Bukola Saraki.

Dismissing the claims, Wike criticized Governor AbdulRazaq's political approach in Kwara, particularly the sidelining of serving federal lawmakers within the state's ruling party fold.

“You remove senators, you remove House of Reps. You must be a super Governor,” Wike said. “The senators you removed, you have no place for them. They are all supporting Mr President. We gave them ticket. Instead of you to appreciate us that we did not allow them to go to ADC, you are now saying I am the one sponsoring candidates in your state.”

The minister also took a swipe at Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, claiming the governor was meddling in Rivers State politics in a similar manner.

Addressing speculation regarding the 2027 elections, Wike firmly debunked rumors that he gave assurances that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would stand down and not field candidates in specific states.

“I never promised any governor that PDP will not have candidates in any state. So Kwara will not be an exception. I have equally said it to the face of the Kwara governor,” the minister stated.

Wike maintained that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will secure a smooth return to Aso Rock in 2027, cautioning that governors must demonstrate tactical political maturity rather than creating unnecessary friction in their states. The minister's outspoken remarks reflect deepening fractures and high-stakes maneuvering between key political actors across party lines as alliances take shape ahead of the 2027 polls.
