Trading on the Nigerian equities market ended on a cautious note as the benchmark index declined by 0.06 per cent, despite a significant increase in trading activity during the session.
The Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) All-Share Index slipped marginally as investors engaged in selective sell-offs, resulting in a mild decline in overall market value.
The session, however, recorded stronger investor participation, with trading volume rising compared with the previous session. The increase in volume indicated that investors remained active in repositioning their portfolios despite the negative movement in the broader market.
The decline was largely driven by losses in some major stocks, with selling pressure outweighing gains recorded in other parts of the market.
Market activity reflected a relatively quiet sell-off rather than a broad-based downturn, as investors appeared to adopt a cautious approach while adjusting their positions.
The development comes amid continued efforts by investors to balance profit-taking with opportunities in selected equities, particularly as market participants assess corporate performance and prevailing economic conditions.
Despite the marginal decline, the increased trading volume suggests that investor interest in the Nigerian equities market remains strong, even as market sentiment remains mixed.
Analysts and investors are expected to continue monitoring price movements, trading activity and developments across listed companies as the market heads into subsequent trading sessions.
