As the 2027 election season approaches, the political landscape is abuzz with activity. Amidst the fervor, I'd like to reflect on the wisdom of a great leader who left an indelible mark on our collective consciousness. The late Chief C.T. Ayeni, a stalwart statesman and mentor, imparted valuable lessons that have stayed with me to this day.
During one of his insightful lectures, Chief C.T Ayeni took me through the history of representation in the Ekiti/Oke-Ero/Irepodun/Isin Federal Constituency. He highlighted the fact that Ekiti Local Government Area has had a significant presence in the Senate, with notable figures such as Sen Chief Simeon Ajibola, Late Sen Rafiu Ibrahim, and Sen Lola Ashiru, who currently holds the seat.
Chief Ayeni's analysis also extended to the House of Representatives, where he noted that Irepodun Local Government Area has had its fair share of representation. He mentioned notable past representatives, including Hon Basiar Bola Oni, Gbenga Makanjuola, Hon Ayedun Olayinka Akeem, Late Hon Funke Adedoyin, and Hon Raheem Ajulo-Opin.
However, Chief C.TAyeni's scrutiny of the list revealed a striking observation: none of the aforementioned representatives hailed from Ekiti Block. He anticipated potential counterarguments, acknowledging the brief [3 Months] tenure of Dr Ashaolu Oni just like Sen Makanjuola Ajadi, which were cut short due to court Judgement, We can't obviously say they served which means such rare cases should be noted.
Undeterred by these exceptions, Chief Ayeni emphasized the importance of fairness, equity, and justice in our collective pursuit of power and representation. He urged Ekiti lovers to unite behind the Igbomina aspirant for the Senatorial Seat, ensuring that the dividends of democracy are shared equitably among the Kwara South Local Government Areas.
