A Nigerian businesswoman has raised concerns over an alleged ₦75 million bill from the Industrial Training Fund (ITF), questioning how the amount was arrived at.
In a video circulating on social media, the entrepreneur expressed shock over the alleged bill and questioned what the agency had done to support the growth of her business.
She said she started the business while she was in 300 level at the university, and questioned how her business could be faced with such a substantial financial obligation.
The businesswoman also called attention to the broader challenges facing entrepreneurs in Nigeria, asking what support the government has provided to help businesses grow and remain sustainable.
The ITF is a federal government agency responsible for promoting industrial skills development and workforce training. Eligible employers are required to contribute one per cent of their annual payroll to the Fund.
However, the exact basis of the alleged ₦75 million assessment remains unclear. It has not been established whether the figure represents outstanding contributions, penalties, arrears or an assessment covering several years.
The controversy has generated reactions online, with Nigerians debating the financial burden of statutory obligations on businesses and the level of government support available to entrepreneurs.
The ITF has yet to publicly clarify the specific ₦75 million claim.
