Ilorin, Kwara State -The political journey of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Deputy Governorship Candidate in Kwara State has received a major boost as different segments of the Christian community in the state throw their weight behind him, endorsing his candidacy ahead of the 2027 general elections under the popular hashtag #Kawufawenu2027.
The historic endorsements, which has generated excitement across Christian circles in the state, was described as a product of years of selfless service, spiritual commitment, and unwavering dedication to the growth and unity of the body of Christ in Kwara State by the candidate, Rev. COS Fawenu.
According to sources at the endorsement meetings, the decision which transcends politics was birth from the candidate's long-standing track record of integrity in ministry, mental capacity, financial, physical and spiritual commitments to the Christian faith and its leadership at different levels.
COS Fawenu, who is widely respected in Christian leadership circles, has served the Christian community meritoriously in several capacities. He served as the Chief Administrative Officer of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Kwara State Chapter. In his capacity as the State Secretary of the association, he was the official spokesperson of the Association for several years.
His vast administrative experience and calm disposition also earned him the role of intermediary between the Government and the Christian communities following his appointment as a former Special Adviser to the Kwara State Government, where he was credited with fostering mutual understanding and peaceful co-existence between the state government and faith-based groups.
During a special visit by COS Fawenu to the CAN leadership in Ilorin, the atmosphere was filled with jubilation, prayers and prophetic declarations as the leadership and entire members of the Association rejoiced upon receiving him. The visit turned into a prayer summit as pastors, bishops, evangelists, youth and women leaders preyed earnestly for him and the gubernatorial candidate, Engr. Sulaiman Bolakale Kawu ahead of the elections.
During a private visit, one of the notable patriachs in the body of Christ, Pa. Prof. Olusola Ajolore, who is regarded as a symbol of Christian unity and endurance in Kwara State, prayed for the success of the #KaWufawenu2027 project and urged Christians across the state to rally behind one of their own who has proven his loyalty to the church.
Speaking on behalf of the Christian leaders, a senior CAN executive who pleaded anonymity pending an official communique, said the endorsement was a unanimous decision borne out of conviction that COS Fawenu will not let God, the Church and the masses down.
"COS Fawenu is not a stranger to us. He has served the Christian community at different fora and levels with humility and sincerity. He understands our pain, our aspirations and our contributions to the development of Kwara State. When he was our State Secretary, he brought innovation, transparency and unity. As Special Adviser, he never abandoned the church; he remained our voice in government. This is the time to reward loyalty, integrity and capacity," the leader said.
The source added that the Christian community has watched with keen interest the political alignment within the PDP and is confident that the emergence of COS Fawenu as Deputy Governorship Candidate balances the equation for inclusivity, equity and fair representation in a state known for its religious harmony.
The #KaWufawenu2027, according to them, is more than a political hastag. It is a grassroots consciousness project aimed at mobilizing Christians, youths, professionals and other well-meaning Kwarans who believe in competence, character and inter-faith harmony to support a ticket that recognizes the place of the church in governance.
Reacting to the endorsement, COS Fawenu was said to be deeply emotional and humbled by the show of love. He reportedly thanked the CAN leadership for their prayers, pledging not to disappoint the Christian community and the entire people of Kwara State if given the mandate.
He was quoted as saying, "I am a product of the church. The church raised me, trained me and gave me a platform to serve. I am here today because the church believed in me. I will continue to be a worthy ambassador of the faith and a bridge builder for all Kwarans, Christians and Muslims alike."
Political analysts in the state say the endorsement could significantly reshape the political dynamics ahead of 2027, as the Christian bloc, which constitutes a formidable voting population across the state has often been a decisive factor in tight contests.
With the #KaWufawenu2027 movement gaining momentum on social media and in church fellowships, cities and local communities, many believe the PDP may have made a strategic choice that resonates with the yearnings for inclusion.
As the 2027 elections draw closer, the endorsement by the Kwara State Christian Community marks a defining moment in the state's political narrative - a moment where faith, service, and loyalty converge to shape the future of Kwara State.
The CAN leadership maintained their non-partisan status by encouraging Christian politician in all political parties to step up their game of effective stewardship, stating that their door is open to encourage their members who have shown capacity and character to take up the challenge of effective participation in the political proces. They concluded their meeting with a special intercessory prayer for peace in Kwara State and Nigeria at large, and for a free, fair and credible elections in 2027.
