NNPC Floats Fresh September Crude Cargoes to Strengthen Nigeria's Oil Exports

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) has issued fresh tenders for the sale of two crude oil cargoes scheduled for September loading, as the country continues efforts to strengthen its position in the global oil market.

The offer includes a 950,000-barrel cargo of Cawthorne crude, one of Nigeria's newest export grades, alongside another 950,000-barrel cargo of Bonny Light crude. According to the tender, the Cawthorne shipment is expected to load between September 21 and 22, while the Bonny Light cargo is scheduled for September 30 to October 1.

NNPC introduced the Cawthorne crude grade earlier this year as part of its strategy to expand Nigeria's crude oil exports, attract more international buyers, and improve production after years of challenges, including oil theft, underinvestment, and operational disruptions.

Industry analysts say the latest tender comes at a time when global buyers are paying closer attention to West African crude due to supply uncertainties in the Middle East. The development is expected to boost Nigeria's export opportunities while reinforcing the country's role as Africa's leading oil producer.

The bidding process for the cargoes is expected to close on August 4, with successful buyers taking delivery according to the scheduled loading dates.
