A group of Islamic scholars have reportedly been abducted while attending a prayer gathering at the residence of Senator Abdul’aziz Abubakar Yari in Talata Mafara, Zamfara State.
The incident reportedly occurred on September 12, 2026, when the clerics gathered at the residence for a prayer session. The scholars were said to have travelled from communities across Bakura and Talata Mafara Local Government Areas.
Those reportedly abducted include Imam Yahuza, First Jumma’at of Dogon Madacci; Magawata Abdullahi, Second Jumma’at of Dogon Madacci; Malam Shehu Dakko; Imam Bala Fagon; and Na’ibi Tasi’u of Tungar Nagudai.
The reported abduction has raised serious concern given the location of the gathering. Senator Yari is a former Governor of Zamfara State and currently represents the state in the Senate. He is also serving as the Director-General of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 presidential campaign.
The circumstances surrounding the reported incident, including how the clerics were taken and the identity or whereabouts of their alleged abductors, remain unclear.
The development adds to growing concerns over insecurity in parts of Zamfara, where communities have continued to face threats from armed groups and kidnapping networks.
Further details are expected as authorities and other relevant parties respond to the reported incident.
